VFW now accepting senior scholarship applications

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6899 and Auxiliary are accepting applications for their Trinity County High School Senior Scholarship program for 2017. The $4,000 VFW Scholarship is awarded annually to Trinity County high school senior students. Seniors must fill out a VFW application form, submit a copy of their high school transcript, a teacher recommendation, and a 300-word essay regarding, “My Family’s Military Service” on any relative who served in the military. The essay is designed for students to research their family’s military history and to appreciate the sacrifices their family made to defend their country and freedom.

“Education is the key in keeping our country strong and free,” said Assistant Quartermaster Gene McLeod. “This is a special year for all Trinity County seniors for they will embark on a new journey in their lives. The men and ladies of VFW Post 6899 congratulates you on graduation day for a job well done.”

Seniors planning to attend college are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Deadline for applications is May 1, 2017. Students can get the details and application forms from their school counselors, call the VFW in Trinity at 594-9467 or visit their website at www.vfwpost6899.org (click on “scholarships”) and download an application.
